MADFIG Projects

National Mouse Monitoring Project

Project duration:
Original project was 2023-2024, extended 2025-2028
In collaboration with:
Farmanco, CSIRO and Nutrien Ag Solutions
Funded by:
Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)
Project Description:

In 2022 MADFIG members were very concerned about the increasing Mouse activity in the local area and this was occurring in many key grain-growing regions.

GRDC partnered with CSIRO to enhance understanding of mouse management. The CSIRO-led research focuses on:

  • understanding mouse ecology, biology and population dynamics for better management
  • increasing mouse surveillance

For MADFIG, this resulted in bringing CSIRO’s Steve Henry (AKA the Mice guy) to the Nokanning  Golf Club for a workshop and field walks in August of 2022.

Through Farmanco, MADFIG then became involved in the National Mouse monitoring and management program with regular monitoring now occurring in the Eastern Wheabelt with the assistance of Nutrien Ag Solutions.

MADFIG will now continue monitoring twice per year at six sites for the duration of the project.  Growers need to be aware of any increased mouse activity and if observed manage and report to MouseAlert below.
