The high risk associated with grain production has rapidly increased in recent years leading to the development of the National RiskWi$e program which aims to assist growers by supporting their on-farm decision-making.
MADFIG has partnered with WANTFA to bring the GGA lead project to the Eastern Wheatbelt. MADFIG is delivering a grower lead Reference Group and area for the on-ground trials.
The MADFIG focus is on Nitrogen (a high-risk input) and grower decisions in season and in their farming system. The project looks at return on investment and yield impact. Two demonstration sites were chosen on MADFIG Member properties at Elabbin and Hines Hill and trials are undertaken on varying Nitrogen applications. Nitrogen banking (carryover Nitrogen) in the paddocks has been monitored in 2023, 2024, 2025 and again this year. Results will be shared when available.
MADFIG collaborated with MESSIUM UK in 2023/24 to extend the project looking at real time satellite imaging of Nitrogen levels in Wheat crops.
