MADFIG are delighted to be hosting a soil re-engineering treatment trial managing subsoil acidity and compaction in the Eastern Wheatbelt. It’s part of the Soil Water and Nutrition (SWAN) Strategic Collaboration Program 1A (Soils Re-engineering). We’re all wondering how deep is deep enough in our local environment and researchers Gaus, Kanch and Shahinur are aiming to find out.
The soil type is deep acidic yellow sand with project treatments are at depths of 400-, 800- and 1200-mm. Lime has been incorporated at 0, 400, 800 and 1200mms.
The initial site works occurred in February 2025. MADFIG hosted a popup opportunity (with extreme care!) to see the spader in operation and the project site will be one of the priority stops on our Annual Spring Field Day (Sept 16th 2025).
